Classic Ranch Complete Information

KFC Classic Ranch costs $0.29 and carries 130 cal. Cool, herby and thick, it is the most ordered dip KFC sells and the one that works against heat better than anything else on the counter. Buttermilk and fat coat the tongue where a vinegar sauce strips it, which is the actual reason ranch and cayenne belong together.

It is also the heaviest dip on the menu. Two tubs of ranch carry roughly what an 8 pc. Nuggets does on its own, so a tray with three of them is not the small addition it looks. That is worth knowing rather than worth avoiding. If the creaminess is what you want with less of the weight, Honey Mustard is sharper and lighter, and Buffalo Ranch is the same base with cayenne stirred through.

KFC Classic Ranch Recipe

A dip is the easiest thing on this site to reproduce at home and the one where the difference in cost is largest. Five minutes of whisking replaces a tub at $0.29, and the result keeps for a week.

Tips

  • Rest it. This is the whole difference between a homemade dip and one that tastes like the tub.
  • Make double. It keeps a week in a sealed jar and you will use it faster than that.
  • Taste it cold, which is how it will be eaten.

Variations

  • Thin with a spoon of buttermilk for a pourable dressing rather than a dip.
  • Add cayenne or hot sauce a quarter teaspoon at a time for a hot version.
  • Double the acid for something sharper that cuts fried food harder.

Serve it with

  • With tenders, which is what dips are actually ordered for.
  • As a sandwich spread rather than a dip.
  • A jar costs less than three tubs at $0.29 each.

A home version of Classic Ranch. It is our own recipe, not KFC's, and the Original Recipe blend stays a trade secret.

Classic Ranch Questions

$0.29 per tub. Most restaurants include one or two with a tenders or nuggets order before charging for extras.

130 cal per tub, which makes it the heaviest dip on the menu.

Capsaicin dissolves in fat, not in water. A creamy buttermilk dip carries it away; a vinegar-based sauce does not.

A sauce is included with most tenders orders. The 3 pc. Tenders Combo comes with one, and the larger boxes scale up from there.

Buffalo Ranch is this same ranch with cayenne sauce stirred through it, so it is creamy first and hot second.
